46K LSD to Antipolo on Good Friday - 29Mar2013

Last Good Friday, March 29, 2013 I had my first solo LSD going up to the Antipolo Cathedral (National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage). In my planned route via Dailymile, the round trip LSD would have a total of 42K mileage, click HERE to view the map. But upon reaching the Cathedral, I decided to visit my relatives in a nearby subdivision which added at least 8K mileage.

Infront of Antipolo Cathedral on March 29, 2013
Last year, we had our Visita Iglesia with fellow running friends to Antipolo via Pasig, Cainta and Taytay.Total one way mileage was around 27 kilometers with at least 7 churches that we visited.

My LSD last Good Friday was also the first road test of my Soleus Fit 1.0 GPS watch. True enough the GPS distance did not start immediately and I had to re-start the watch at around 2K mark from my starting point in Sta. Mesa.

My GPS watch now road tested

The watch display shows 44.19Kms but the actual mileage was at plus 46Kms due to the need to re-start the GPS connection. Also, I was suppose to do a round trip LSD at 42K distance as I mentioned earlier but due to the added distance, the total distance if I had completed the route would be at least 52Kms. But upon reaching Meralco in Ortigas Center at past 1PM, I decided to call it a day and stop due to extreme heat of the summer sun.

Consumed (water partly used in cooling my head) the following during my 7 hours and 44 minutes LSD plus heat training;

A. Going up to Antipolo Cathedral (at least 21K)
1. 500ml Gatorade Grape (in my 2 bottles Nathan Hydration belt, 1 bottle left)
2. 350ml Cobra
3. 350ml Summit water
4. 28g Cloud 9 chocolate
5. 1 GU energy gel Vanilla
6. 500ml Absolute water

B. In my cousin's house and going back to Antipolo City Proper (at least 8K)
1. 300ml water (at least)
2. 2 pcs boiled banana (saba)
3. 237ml Cobra
4. 237ml Royal softdrinks

C. Antipolo Proper to Ortigas Center (around 17K)
1. 28g Cloud 9 chocolate
2. 500ml Gatorade
3. 350ml Hidden Spring water
4. 1 pc Kariman Burgoo (Mini Stop)
5. 500ml Viva water

And a lot more water plus some Gatorade and salt upon reaching home. I normally do not have the appetite to eat a lot after long run, even after ultra marathons.

My New Running Buddy- Soleus Fit 1.0 GPS Watch

Hello everyone!

It's been a while since my last blog post here. Been very busy with work related activities, in short office life as well as home life.

Despite this I have managed to get some training runs during Sundays since January this year. I am currently gearing up for my 3rd 50K run on May 1, 2013 at the 5th Tagaytay to Nasugbu ultra marathon.

And as a present to myself, I bought my first ever watch and it is a running watch! It is my new running buddy - a Soleus Fit 1.0 GPS watch.

My new Soleus Fit 1.0 GPS
Soleus Fit 1.0 is the most basic model with the brand- they also have 2.0 and 3.0 models. Below is the brief model information for 1.0;

Track your workouts with the 24-hour chrono, 100-Lap memory, and an optional Auto Lap feature to mark and record your splits without having to push a button. The GPS Fit 1.0 also features a ventilated band, larger display for easier reading and a simplified 4-button design.

  • USB charging cord
  • Owner's manual

See you on the road guys! Gotta get some sleep as I will road testing my Soleus watch tomorrow, a 50K LSD to Antipolo Church ;-)

OK OK Runners 21K LSD on April 8, 2012

For the second time, I joined the OK OK Runners LSD run last April 8, Easter Sunday. Same venue at the KM Zero in Rizal Park.

I started my morning by running from Santol to KM Zero, then I was joined by Allan Gregor to my next stage run going to Intramuros. Before the start of the OK OK LSD, I already accumulated 11K mileage.

The OK OK LSD was divided in several pace group and we chose to be at the 7mph group. Overly inspired we added an additional of 2K to the original 21K route.

Allan and I originally planned to extend the LSD to Intramuros after the 23K run but due to extreme heat, we abandoned the plan and I settled for 34K total mileage for the day in 4:10H time.

Thanks to OK OK runners family. Til next LSD guys!

What is LSD?
Long slow distance is running at a moderate pace in which you can carry on a conversation and in which you aren’t panting for breath and don’t get side stitches (cramps) or a raw throat. Running LSD means that you’re running aerobically, that is, your body is getting sufficient oxygen. Running LSD means that you’re using moderation in your training and not pushing your body to extreme stress levels. Most of your training should be LSD if you want to run injury free. It’s during your LSD runs that your body develops endurance. – Running Injury Free

Pacer's Meeting for Ms Mars PF Bday LSD Run

Last Monday, January 23, 2012, the first ever LSD pacer's meeting was held at the ROX Bonifacio High Street for the upcoming Birthday LSD Run of Ms Mars-our beloved PinoyFitness.com moderator on January 29th.

As one of the volunteer pacer, I was so eager to be at the meeting place. It will be my first time to do pacing duties and I am sure it will be a great run on Sunday.

My First LSD Run-22.2 Km Rizal Park to Coastal Road on July 17, 2011

Last night, my running buddy Rexie Saldivar posted in her Facebook wall an invitation for LSD (Long Slow Distance) run this morning, July 17, 2011. I answered to her call and instantly I am into my first LSD. I have done several long distance runs like 21km or the half marathon but LSD is an easy pace run. You are not in a hurry to beat the clock or your Personal Record.

Aside from that, my buddy is a first timer in the 21K category so I need to pace her and to take the LSD really slow and easy. So upon meeting up at Rizal Park, Manila at 6:30 AM, we planned our route as well as the target finished time which is 3 hours.

Starting point at Rizal Park
Along Seaside Blvd near MOA
Along Seaside Blvd
Before our U-turn point
End Point at Rizal Park Kilometer 0

LSD is quite enjoyable and relaxed. But due to more than a month of running hiatus, I need to adjust and expect some body pains starting this afternoon. In all, it was a great run, I hope next LSD run, it would be longer and more participants.

Thank you buddy Rexie Saldivar for the pictures!
