Run United 2012 Leg 1 - Race Day Review & Pics

This morning, the Run United leg 1 for 2012 Trilogy happened at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City. But for the 21K runners, the starting point was at the Riovana store in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

For this run, I was set to pace Doc Gracielle and help her out to achieve a new 21K PR. Also, Rain will be joining our group.

At BGC, we were joined by Doc Gracielle's friend, Ton Ramos in our warm-up routine up to the gunstart. But as we proceed to Kalayaan Flyover, he was isolated in our group.

All through out the race, I paced Doc Gracielle while Rain became on and off in our group as she suffered some calf muscle discomfort. Initially we aimed for sub 2hours run but in the end we settle for a 2:10-2:11 unofficial finish time. Still a new PR for Doc Gracielle. Congrats Doc!!!

The race was very good in terms of hydration, electrolytes drink (Powerade) was overflowing, I counted more Powerade stations than water stations at the 21K route. Plus the bananas were first offered at the 7km mark and more bananas at the Rizal Park hydration stations. A great improvement for the organizers. Runrio really redeemed itself from the doomsday RU3 2011 performance.

But still there were some glitch of the race performance as finishers kit for 21K runners were reported to have been stolen resulting to some or many of the runners not being able to get their loots. 

At least, for us we were able to get our own loots and medals! A new and different 21K medal this time, as it will be a part of the medal puzzle if you complete this year's Trilogy.

Run United 2012 Leg 1 - My Race Kit

Before race kit gets to be sold out for the Run United leg1 2012 or most call RU1 few weeks ago, I hurried to register myself for a 21K slot at TAF (The Athlete's Foot) Galleria. And luckily, I was able to catch up one of the last 6 slots. :-)

My Race Kit (singlet & Bib) 

The RU1 21K race route this time was kind of new route as it will be starting at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig and have its finish line at the Mall of Asia in Pasay. But to those who already joined the previous RU3 32K category, the route was almost similar, the only difference is the stretch from Buendia to Kalayaan Flyover to Riovana Store in Bonifacio High Street.

This run will be my second commercial run (with reg fee of Php 900.00) this year 2012, and I will be running this time with Doc Gracielle and Rain, hopefully will earn Doc Gracielle her new 21K PR :-)

Run United 1 2012, will be held on March 4, 2012 with 500m, 3k, 5k, 10k and 21k race categories. All categories except for 21k will have start and finishline at the SM Mall of Asia while 21k will start at Bonifacio Global City and finish at SM Mall of Asia.

The Run United 1 21km Finisher’s Medal is a unique medal by itself and at the same time is a unique part of a 3-piece puzzle made up of medals from the RunRio Trilogy/Run United Series legs. Register and Finish the 21km/21km/32km of legs 1/2/3 respectively and form the medal puzzle which is the 2012 unique RunRio Trilog/Run United Series Trilogy Puzzle!

Each leg 1 – 21km, leg 2 – 21km and leg 3 – 21km and 32km finishers will get to receive a 3 inch-radius pie-shaped medal like this:

If a runner finishes all three legs in the category 21km/21km/32km or 21km/21km/21km, he/she will be able to form this medal puzzle:

SHUTTLE SERVICE:
We will be providing a SHUTTLE SERVICE for 21km participants. The service will have the SM Mall of Asia as its pick-up point and will bring the 21km runners to the 21km starting line at the BGC.

Why SM Mall of Asia as pick-up point? Consideration was given to 21km runners who may have other members of the family who will be running a shorter distance so SM Mall of Asia is a more feasible originating point. Besides, there are more available parking areas there than in BGC.
More details and mechanics for the Shuttle Service will be posted once available.

BAGGAGE AREA/SERVICE:
Baggage Services will be available at the BGC race area in the form of ROVING BAGGAGE SERVICE VANS which will be on standby prior to race start and will move to the SM Mall of Asia to bring these checked-in baggages to the designated Baggage Claim Areas.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

• Race kits may run out before February 26, 2012 therefore, registration may end before the announced deadline.
• A valid ID must be presented upon registration. For group registration, a photocopy of any valid ID must be presented by the representative.
• Singlet size availability will be on a first come first served basis.
• A timing device will be used by all participants during the race.
