NIKE’S WE RUN RACE SERIES TO HIT THE STREETS OF MANILA
We Run MNL 10K inspires and connects runners globally with Nike+

PHILIPPINES, OCTOBER 2012 – Nike’s We Run race returns to Manila for a second year, to inspire, motivate and connect runners around the world on December 2, 2012. The Nike We Run race series this year will be across 34 cities with an expected participation of 395,500 runners globally. In Southeast Asia, runners in Malaysia and Singapore have conquered their cities on 14 October and 22 October respectively. The We Run torch will be passed to the Philippines from Guadalajara, before making its next stop in Buenos Aires.

Participants of this year’s We Run MNL 10K can also look forward to receiving a We Run race tee. Adapting the global We Run design, and customized for the Philippines, runners are identified globally with the black Nike Dri-Fit race tee with a distinct volt green piping on the collar and a striking graphic in volt green. Runners who complete the run will also receive a finisher’s tee to proudly wear their achievement.

Nike’s We Run Manila 10K race will energize the streets of Pasay City with the 13,000 high-octane runners expected to make tracks all over the SM Mall of Asia’s grounds. Set against the remarkable view of Manila Bay, the initial stretch of the race will let runners pass through the commercialized area of the Mall of Asia with the SMX Convention Center and the latest icon of the area, the eye-shaped SM Bay City Arena. Runners are set to leave urban commercial scenery and head towards the fields along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard. Closing in on the halfway point of the race, runners will then pass the upcoming Belle Casino, a gold complex glistening in the morning sun. As they take a turn on Pacific Avenue and race past the same landmarks, runners will come upon the iconic ferris-wheel along Seaside Boulevard that marks the final kilometer to the finish line. The panoramic run would not be complete without an engaging en route entertainment featuring some of Manila’s top musical acts. Runners can expect to relax and recharge from their run with the array of services such as massage booths at the race village.

“Nike’s We Run race is the celebration of running across the world, the culmination of every runner’s dedication and commitment to train harder, defy expectations and push their bodies’ limits. Nike aims to revolutionize the running experience, by allowing runners to inspire, motivate and connect with other runners globally through the Nike+ Technology”, shared Sanjay Gangopadhyay, Marketing Director of Nike South East Asia. “With the second edition of the We Run race in Manila, Nike envisions Filipinos, the youth in particular, to further move the local running scene forward by leading the active lifestyle movement.”

This year, Nike is taking inspiration to a new level as runners will be able to follow one of Philippines most popular lifestyle bloggers, Lissa Kahayon of lissakahayon.com, who will be embarking on her first We Run race. Follow her We Run journey as she takes on the challenge of preparing for Nike’s We Run MNL 10K race, blogging at each step of the journey, and witness how Nike elevates her everyday running experience with the various product offerings including the Nike+ ecosystem.

To get race-ready, Nike will organize training sessions focusing on proper running techniques and tips. Runners will also be able to test out the Nike+ Running app (available on iOS and Android), and try out the season’s latest running products.

Welcome to FM Distance Doc Gracielle!

This morning, after having a two weeks hiatus from running since Run United leg 2 last June 17. Together with my runner friends Doc Gracielle and Rain did a 43K LSD in preparation of their full marathon (42K) run this coming Manila leg of the Milo National Marathon on the 29th of July.

Our route was from España to Rizal Park via Legarda to MOA via Diosdado Macapagal and straight back to UP Diliman via Quezon Avenue.

At past 21K mark of our LSD, I had bloated tummy due to over hydration and this slowed me down a lot. This adds up to the long days of no run. I usually do not run longer than 21K from vacation.

With 1st time 42K runner, Doc Gracielle
At last after more than 6 hours on the road, we conquered 43K LSD distance. And it's the first time of Doc Gracielle to hit 42K or the Full Marathon distance. Congrats Doc! You are now ready for your FM debut!

With Rain and Doc Gracielle, picture mode!
Til next run guys! Goodluck to your Milo FM run! Will be with you in my thoughts :-)

Run United Leg 2 2012 Race Day

This morning, June 17, 2012, the leg 2 of this year's Run United Runrio Trilogy happened at the Mall of Asia grounds. For us, who participated in the 21K event, our starting line was at the Bonifacio Global City, the same route as the Leg 1.

The weather was kinda breezy and rainy as the whole archipelago experienced the past days due to Tyhoon Butchoy. And as usual, I expected wet socks and shoes for this run, but it's not my first time to run under the rain. During last year's Milo Manila leg, the rain was harder as well during my first 42K at the Quezon City International Marathon last December.

For the second time around, I ran with Doc Gracielle and Rain. Aiming for a new PR despite the weather :-)

With Rain, still soaking wet

With Doc Gracielle & Rain after the race

Will update our official finish time upon release from the organizers.

One more medal to complete the puzzle

Now the second part of the medal puzzle is at hand. In few months time, the leg 3 medal will complete the above puzzle!

More photos will be uploaded or linked upon availability.

Happy running everyone!

Reached my 1,000K plus Mileage Today May 27, 2012

After two years and two months of running, I reached my 1,013KM mileage today after my 22K LSD and recovery run at the UP Diliman Oval.

I officially started running last March 2010 during the Globe Run for Home. My first run was 5K distance. Year 2010 was a year of 5K's for me, running at least three 5K events then I ended the year with a 10K at the 2nd QCIM.

3rd T2N 50K Ultra Race Day Experience

Last Sunday, May 20, 2012, I had my ultramarathon debut at the 3rd Tagaytay to Nasugbu (T2N) 50K Run.

For this 50K debut, I trained since February this year after my second full marathon (42K) at the Condura Skyway Marathon. But after my 45K LSD last April 29, I suffered sore throat, dry cough and colds. A training set back for me, but this did not hindered me to continue. My last 30K LSD last May 13 brought back my colds until May 19.

Before race time, I only managed to have 1:30 hours sleep as my team Rock and Road need to meet up and travel to Tagaytay at 1AM.

While waiting for our race bibs at Picnic Grove
We arrived at the Picnic Grove almost 4AM, we immediately claimed our race bibs. And after some time at the line, we are ready to go!

Still foggy at Tagaytay, around 6AM
Greens at Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway
At around halfway of the 50K course, I suffered over hydration, which I blame to myself. This slowed me down as I felt bloated and heavy.

At past 30K mark, my energy started to diminish and I resorted to buying another bottle of cobra energy drinks at a sari-sari store along the way. I also asked my support to buy some bananas as these will help prevent muscle cramps.

At almost 40K mark, I started to feel the heat of the sun at around 9AM, while my support team was still at the next 5K mark, I bought softdrinks and iced water at the stores along the road.

At past 40K mark, it seemed the road to be endless, I am so grateful that I have our support team which kept on returning back to check on us.

At the finish line in Nasugbu, 11AM
And at 11AM, I finally arrived at the Plaza de Roxas in Nasugbu, Batangas, where the 50K run have its finish line. At the last 500 meters, I pushed myself to pass at least three runners ahead of me, thus making me the 103rd finisher out of 275 finishers. And with official time of 6:30H.

With Bald Runner at the Awarding
Thank you to our TeaM Rock and Road for the great support! Thank you to all other support teams who offered their drinks!

Congrats to my 3rd T2N batchmates! Till next ultra guys!
